Application News:

We have closed the applications for the 2008 year. 

 

2007 was a busy time for the Kona-California Scholarship. In May, we awarded scholarships to three students from Kealakehe High School who are now pursuing their dreams in California.

In August, Kona's own Iration headlined a show at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California, to raise money for scholarships and raise awareness about the cause. The result was a fun night of dancing and over $2000 in donations for this year's awards...

With your generous contributions, the Kona-California Scholarship bank balance for the scholarship totaled over $3000 at the end of 2007. Since it is our policy to give 100% of donations to as scholarships, this year's recipients will be fortunate ones. Applications are due in March, and we expect to hear from more bright and ambitious Big Islanders who look forward to pursuing their dreams on the mainland.

With the entire bank account committed to this year's awards, we are now raising funds for the 2009 winners. Every dollar that we raise between now and the end of 2008 will go towards the goal of offering larger awards in 2009. One of the goals of the Kona-California Scholarship is to allow students to visit home during holidays, and as you know, plane ticket prices are increasing every year!

Kona-California has joined the IT revolution, and is now accepting donations online through PayPal. To contribute the old fashioned way, you are welcome to send a check made out to Kona-California Scholarship. Either way, the donation is tax deductible (EIN: 30-0356534).
