2009 Update...

Last year, we awarded a total of $3240.66 to three new Kona-California scholars, who are now studying in San Diego and Chico. Since its establishment in 2005, the Kona-California Scholarship has now helped a total of nine graduates of Kailua-Kona high schools to pursue their dreams on the Mainland. 

In May 2008, friends and family of the Kona-California Scholarship organized a wine tasting tour in Temecula, San Diego County's grape growing region, to raise money for scholarships and raise awareness about the cause. With a crew of over 27 people on our limo bus, the result was a day of fun and over $2500 in donations for this year's awards. Mahalo to everyone who attended!

With your generous support, the Kona-California Scholarship bank balance totaled over $1000 at the end of 2008. As of February 2009, We have distributed applications to the counselors at Konawaena and Kealakehe high schools, and we expect to hear from more bright and ambitious Big Islanders this year. Applications are due in April, and the scholars will be recognized during the end of the year awards ceremonies at their high schools.

We are now raising funds for the 2009 winners, and we would greatly appreciate your contribution. We realize that these are tough economic times, but even a gift of $10 would help. As everyone knows, college is expensive, and every dollar that we raise through June 2009 will go directly to this year's recipients to cover costs including tuition, books, and a bit of fun as well. We also hope that the scholarship allows the scholars to visit friends and family in Kona during the holiday season and keep in touch with the community that raised them.
